Maroon Bells Engagement

Aspen, Colorado is a place that I hold near and dear to my heart. For one, my dad used to live there! No big deal. He was a pilot for Aspen Airways in the 70’s and both my parents go back every few years to celebrate their anniversary. I’ve seen Aspen in every season and between the golden leaves in the fall, the amazing ski slopes in the winter and the year around people watching… it’s one of those places you could visit over an over.

When Lindsey reached out to me to do her engagement photos on a whim I WAS SO EXCITED! I look for any excuse to spend a few days in Aspen. With all things COVID-19 happening around us, I instantly got on the phone and called about Maroon Bells. Since it’s the GO-TO Aspen tourist spot I figured they probably made some adjustments to their visitation requirements. Turns out to visit the bells you have to make an online reservation in advance. I quickly snagged two parking reservations in case of bad weather and we were good to go!

I picked up Lindsey and Matt in downtown Aspen and together we drove up to Maroon Bells. This drive is one of my favorites in the world. Aiming for golden hour, the sun trickled through the aspen trees as we made our way up the steep road. To my surprise there weren’t too many other people there! Woo hoo!

We spent the rest of the afternoon in awe staring at the bells and wandering around Maroon Lake. We caught the last few minutes of golden hour and with a quick outfit change spent the rest of the time shooting during blue hour. My favorite moments from the shoot took place at the very end. Lindsey and I talked about how cool it would be to stand in the water at Maroon lake… but with signs and roped walkways not allowing it we made our way back to the parking lot as we spotted the river. Lindsey insisted we get some photos IN the water! (A photographer’s dream client!) Matt wasn’t super excited at first, keeping his shoes on for the first few photos, but Lindsey finally convinced him to enjoy the moment and step into the freezing cold water! They enjoyed their final moments of the shoot slow dancing in the river. Amazing.

Congratulations on your engagement Lindsey & Matt!! I hope you have the most amazing wedding this fall!
