Adventure Session in the Rocky Mountains
There is an old wives’ tale that claims rain on your wedding day is a good omen or a sign of good luck for the newly married couple. While this bodes well for Sue and Luke, the presence of rain on their actual wedding day made it difficult to get as many portraits of the two of them as they’d hoped. Because of this, they reached out to me for an adventure session that included their wedding attire, and after having met them, I feel like I’m the lucky one!
We met up at their cozy little cabin in Empire, Colorado, to give Sue and Luke a second chance at the wedding portraits of their dreams. This couple was incredibly hospitable and made me feel right at home from the moment I stepped onto their property. Their cabin was just as warm and inviting as the newlyweds! Nestled amongst the trees with a gorgeous view of the surrounding mountains, it was the perfect atmosphere for romantic shots of this adventure-loving twosome.
While touring their garden (complete with a chair lift– how cool is that?) I was introduced to their cat and my new BFF, Mowgli. Like his people, Mowgli was a natural in front of the camera and snuggled them for a few photos. From there, we toured their camper, aptly named the Gnar-V, and we spent the rest of the afternoon exploring the surrounding area as well as one of their favorite secret spots along the river.
Sue and Luke are incredibly down to earth and easy to work with! Of all the couples I’ve photographed over the years, few were as relaxed and accommodating for their session as these two. Their love for adventure and relaxed personalities made for such a fun and easy-going afternoon despite everything mother nature threw our way. We took advantage of the fall colors and scenic views, but we also experienced every type of weather that Colorado has to offer over the course of the shoot. They were such team players hiking through the wilderness, sometimes in snow, without any complaining. And they did so in a wedding gown and suit, no less!
By the end of the session, I felt like I’d spent the day catching up with old friends when we’d really only just met. Sue and Luke welcomed me into their life with open arms and trusted my vision. In the end, their sense of adventure paid off and we were able to get some great shots that really encompass who they are as a couple.
